VOICES FROM THE FRONTLINES: The Ministry of Pastor Frantzdy Francois in Pedernales & Beyond

Preaching the Gospel and Helping the Poor in Pedernales

We bring you an update today on the vital and multifaceted work of Pastor Frantzdy Francois, a pioneering pastor serving in the Pedernales, Dominican Republic. This update offers a window into his unwavering commitment to Christ and the communities he serves.

A Ministry Forged in Dedication

Called from a Dominican congregation to specifically minister to his Haitian compatriots, Pastor Frantzdy has been instrumental in establishing foundational Christian communities. He planted the first Haitian congregation in Pedernales, which also holds the distinction of being the very first Baptist church in that entire area. His vision and labor extended further, leading to the planting of another church in Avila, a remote mountain community. Pastor Frantzdy faithfully oversees this congregation, making regular, journeys up the mountain to meet with local leaders and to preach or teach. The believers in Avila demonstrate inspiring commitment, often traveling considerable distances on foot from rugged areas to gather for worship and fellowship.

A Glimpse into a Week of Service

Pastor Frantzdy’s schedule is a testament to his holistic approach to ministry, addressing both spiritual and physical needs with tireless dedication:

  • Mondays are typically focused on crucial outreach. This involves evangelistic follow-up through visitations and the compassionate provision of practical aid. The day is often complemented by leading a Bible study in the barrios of Avila or Aguas Negras, nurturing faith at its roots.
  • Tuesdays are anchored by a prayer service at the local church in Pedernales, a vital time for the congregation to unite in seeking God.
  • Wednesdays are dedicated to pastoral care. Accompanied by a deacon, Pastor Frantzdy visits members of the Pedernales congregation, checking on their well-being, offering personal prayer, and delivering essential food and medication.
  • Thursdays bring the church community together for a worship service, usually filled with singing and an insightful teaching from Pastor Frantzdy.
  • Fridays see a continued emphasis on discipleship with another Bible study conducted in Pedernales, fostering deeper understanding of God’s Word.
  • Saturdays are pivotal for church health and leadership, involving meetings with church leaders for strategic planning and mutual encouragement. Practical aid coordination also continues, with some assistance delivered during visits and other support provided at his home.
  • Sundays are a cornerstone, with worship services held in both the morning and evening, spiritually refreshing the congregation. Time between services is often used to deliver any remaining practical help.

Beyond this weekly rhythm, Pastor Frantzdy’s mission includes spearheading an outreach just outside Pedernales, specifically ministering to a deeply vulnerable population. His bi-monthly visits to the Avila church plant also include one focused on leadership meetings and another for preaching or teaching.

Resilience Forged in Fire: Overcoming Extreme Adversity

Pastor Frantzdy’s unwavering dedication shines brightest against the backdrop of profound personal trial. In November 2023, his ministry and life were violently threatened when he was shot directly in front of his own church building in Pedernales. This harrowing assault, bringing him face-to-face with death at the very threshold of his place of ministry, was an event that would understandably cause many to retreat or cease their work.

However, demonstrating extraordinary faith, Pastor Frantzdy, following his recovery, made the courageous decision to continue his ministry with undiminished compassion and an even stronger resolve. His perseverance in serving his community and leading his congregations, despite the clear and present dangers he has personally faced, powerfully underscores the depth of his commitment.

A Call to Prayer

Pastor Frantzdy Francois’ ministry is a critical beacon in the communities he serves. The challenges are significant on the southern most part of the Dominican/Haitian border, from the logistical difficulties of reaching those in the mountain areas to the deep needs of vulnerable populations, and the personal risks involved in faithful Gospel witness.

We earnestly ask you to join us in prayer for Pastor Frantzdy:

  • For his continued safety, health, wisdom, and enduring strength.
  • For the congregations in Pedernales and Avila, that they may grow in faith and number.
  • For the mission outreaches outside of Pedernales and in Aguas Negras. That they may effectively
  • reach those in desperate need with the Gospel and Christ’s love.
  • For God’s continued grace and fruitfulness upon his ministry.
