VOICES FROM THE FRONTLINES: Equipping Believers To Defend The Faith

We’re pleased to share an update on our recent virtual apologetics conference featuring guest expositor Dustin Segers.

In the first session, Dustin advocated for a biblical approach to apologetics, emphasizing the sufficiency of Scripture. He criticizes common methods like evidentialism, rationalism, and some forms of presuppositionalism as unbiblical and potentially misleading. He proposes a “Biblical Apologetics” approach that uses Scripture to answer questions and objections about the faith. This approach relies on the authority and sufficiency of the Bible, as exemplified by the apostles. Segers convincingly argues that the Bible, along with prayer, is the only weapon needed to defend the faith, and that human wisdom and philosophy are inadequate and even condemned by Scripture. He emphasizes that true faith is based on the Word of God alone, and that Christians should confidently wield the sword of the Spirit to defend the faith.

It was encouraging to see a diverse group of believers gather online from various locations, including:

Venezuela had a strong presence with pastors and believers from several states in connected (Mérida, Aragua, Cojedes, Zulia, Carabobo).

Believers from different communities in the Dominican Republic Santiago,(Yaguita de Pastor, Hato Mayor, Pedernales) including a pastor connected with a group in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.

Also represented in the call were Gonaives, Haiti and New York, USA.

We’re thankful for the positive feedback received:

“It was excellent, and I will definitely be connecting again for the other teachings.” – Edwin Sosa in New York

“It was an eye-opener, I was impacted and edified.” – Noel Bolivar in Cojedes, Venezuela

This virtual conference directly ties into several key aspects of our mission statement:

Equipping Nationals: Providing in-depth teaching on apologetics. This equips believers in Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti with knowledge and tools. They can use this knowledge to defend their faith. It also helps them share their faith more effectively in their communities.

Making Disciples: Apologetics strengthens the faith of believers and equips them to engage in spiritual conversations with others. This supports the discipling process. It helps individuals grow in their understanding of the Gospel. It also enhances their ability to share it with others.

Collaborating with Local Partners: This event involved collaboration with believers in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Venezuela. This demonstrates our commitment to partnering with the nationals.

Strengthening Churches: Equipping individuals with apologetics strengthens the church as a whole. It helps believers to stand firm in their faith. They can resist false teachings. They also engage in effective evangelism. This ultimately contributes to the growth and maturity of the local church.

Fulfilling the Great Commission: We equip believers to defend and share their faith. This contributes to fulfilling the Great Commission. Apologetics plays a crucial role in enabling Christians to confidently proclaim the Gospel to the world.

This virtual conference is a practical example of our mission. We equip, disciple, and partner with local believers. Our goal is to plant and strengthen Christ-centered churches in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Venezuela for the glory of God.

We are extremely thankful to our dear brother Dustin for partnering with BCM for this series on defending the faith for our brothers and sisters in Latin America.

Soli Deo Gloria
